Sam - Good Samaritan!

Mood:Tired Health:Good Weather:Good

For the past two days, I was working 24 hours a day...

My ex- flatmate, Jane , approached me for help in her dissertation on the day when I was moving to my new residence. I stopped moving my stuffs halfway, and helped her to check her English. Some of you might laugh at me 'Sam helping her in English?' I know my English is not fantastic, but at least, I am better than her as her first language is Mandarin.

There were many errors such as nouns, tenses and the worst was senseless sentences which she interpreted them in Mandarin first and later, translated into English. I spent a lot of time, understanding her thoughts then re-phasing them into proper sentences.

With so much to do (her dissertation and my moving) and the deadline for her submission was 2 days later...

We ended up working two days straight without sleeping! I never knew that I am such a benevolent person, sacrificing my sleep and new bed for someone whom I don't know well. All I knew was, she was desperate and I couldn't just walked away.

The two days were like riding on the roller- coaster! With minutes running away, we became more frantic... Even at the last minute, we were like two mad women, compiling everything into a great piece of work. It was a frightening experience! I wished I would not be in her shoes for my coming Final year Project!

She was very appreciative about my help throughout the "exciting process". Then, in her submitted thesis, under 'Acknowledgements', she wrote:

'A heartfelt thank to Samantha who spent sleepless nights looking through my dissertation and improving the standard of my English with her patience and dedication at the most crucial moment.'

First time in my life, I was mentioned in someone's thesis. Not only that, I was told that my lodging and transport (personal chauffeur) will be taken care of if I go to Beijing one day! WOW!

Moral of the story: You never know who you have helped...
